Novenas

Nine days of persistent prayer, following the example of the Apostles and Mary who prayed together from Ascension to Pentecost, awaiting the Holy Spirit.

About Novenas

The novena is one of the oldest forms of Christian devotional prayer. After Jesus's Ascension into heaven, the Apostles and Mary gathered in the Upper Room and prayed together for nine days until the Holy Spirit descended upon them at Pentecost.

This nine-day period of intense prayer became the model for all novenas. The Church encourages the faithful to pray novenas in preparation for important feasts, for special intentions, or in times of particular need.

Novenas are acts of faith and perseverance. By committing to pray for nine consecutive days, we demonstrate our trust in God's timing and our willingness to persist in prayer, as Jesus taught us in the parable of the persistent widow.
